Home Energy Savings Steps
Here are ten simple steps you can take to save energy and money in your home.
  1. Replace light fixtures and/or bulbs with ENERGY STAR CFLs. Remember to turn off the lights when you leave the room.
  2. Wash your laundry in cold water and run full loads whenever possible.
  3. Avoid over-drying your clothes. Use the moisture sensor and clean the lint trap after every use.
  4. Scrape dishes instead of rinsing them before loading into the dishwasher.
  5. Keep drapes open during daylight hours in winter and closed in the summer.
  6. Check to make sure air registers are clear of furniture and use heat resistant reflectors.

  8. Unplug appliances and electronics when not in use or use a power strip.
  9. Install a programmable thermostat.
  10. Contact your utility for rebates on energy saving products and services.
